Lodge #9 is active in our community. Each August, we sponsor at least 75 kids in a back to school event and in December, we again sponsor families with a Christmas shopping event.
During each of these events, the families go shopping with Police Officers who are members of the Fraternal Order of Police. We provide funding for each child for families to use toward back to school supplies or Christmas gifts. Each family and child are referred to our organization from Police Officers, local governmental agencies, School Resource Officers, non-profits or churches.
The families chosen for Cops and Kids are not members of the Fraternal Order of Police; they are members within the communities we serve. The FOP Cops and Kids program is designed to build relationships between Local FOP lodges and the community. Officers taking underprivileged kids shopping for Christmas presents or school supplies shows those children that the police in their area are friends and are always there to help. Giving a child a present, when they wouldn't have received one, or the supplies they need to excel in school, can make a lasting impression.
On June 9, 2019, heavy rains pounded the Charlotte region. Because of the rainfall, the Catawba River flooded ruining many homes along Riverside Dr. Many residents were displaced from their homes and cleanup began once the water receded. FOP Lodge #9 & FOP Auxiliary members quickly reacted bringing a large grilling trailer to the area. Members cooked hundreds of hamburgers, hot dogs, and provided many other assorted food & drink choices to the area. Residents were thankful for the generosity of not only FOP Lodge #9, but to the countless other volunteers and groups who assisted. This is what our organization believes in, helping others in their time of need.
One group of law enforcement officers help provide safety to one community.
However, many groups banded together are a powerful symbol of heroism, with one simple goal: Exceptional service to the city you call home.
Nearly 2,000 law enforcement officers are members of FOP Lodge #9. NC FOP Lodge #9 in Charlotte-Mecklenburg is a non-profit professional law enforcement membership organization that is fully funded and supported by the people and its members.
FOP Lodge #9 is dedicated to being a recognized community partner for charity and helping create a better relationship with the community. It is too often that we are taken for what our jobs are and not seen for our dedication to our communities.
The FOP programs would not be possible without community support. The funds raised by our Foundation are used for member benefits and community projects across the City of Charlotte and surrounding counties.
