Officer Kevin Lovell’s son, Elliott Leo Beau Lovell, was born in April 2019 and diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a very rare heart complication that affects 1 out of every 4,344 babies each year. This Syndrome requires three separate surgeries to get the heart back to a normal functioning level. Infants who have these surgeries are not cured and may have lifelong complications.
Sergeant Frunzi’s oldest son, Jackson, was diagnosed with Leukemia and after months of aggressive treatments at St. Jude’s in Memphis, TN, he is in remission. However, Jackson is facing years of treatment including chemotherapy to continue to battle this illness. Within a few days of returning home from St. Jude’s with Jackson, the Frunzi’s 18-month-old Bennett was diagnosed with a brain tumor (Medulloblastoma). After multiple brain surgeries Bennett is receiving additional treatment including chemotherapy and possibly radiation to continue to battle this cancer.
Capt. Chickoree’s 5-year-old son, Elijah “Eli”, has been diagnosed with Auto Immune Encephalitis. Auto Immune Encephalitis is a rare condition that occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells, leading to inflammation of the brain and many other complications, especially in children. He is getting treatment at Duke medical center and has been hospitalized three times for treatment. Without treatment, Eli can go into a coma. Because of this condition, Eli has lost memory due to the complications and has developed psychological impairments.
Trooper Chris Wooten was severely injured after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash. Trooper Wooten was pursuing a vehicle that failed to stop when his motorcycle and a pickup truck collided, throwing Trooper Wooten from his bike. Trooper Wooten was hospitalized and found, after several tests were performed, that he is paralyzed from his neck down. He is currently seeking treatment in a Georgia medical facility.
